Comeback for Regis tops Men’s Basketball

WESTON, Mass. — Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) emerged to score a game-high 23 points for Regis College (9-14, 5-6 TCCC) in its 64-48 defeat of its The Commonwealth Coast Conference Roger Williams University Saturday.

Roger Williams controlled much of the first half. The Hawks led Regis by at most 12 points with 4:09 remaining in the first half, before Regis began clawing into that lead. The Pride's Neal would sink a three to bring Regis to 30-27 going into intermission.

Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) scored a team-high 12 points for Roger Williams, and grabbed six boards. No other Hawk had double figures.

Regis College had two player's tally double figures. Neal was awoken with Regis' playoff hopes still a possibility, scoring a game-high 23 points. Neal was 10-of-17 (.588) from the field.

Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, R.I.) contributed 19 points in 33 minutes. Vega was perfect from the free-throw line making all seven attempts.

Regis College did not miss any of its 13 free throw attempts for the game. Both teams shot surprisingly well. Roger Williams made 72 percent (8-of-11) of its attempts. Flanagan was 6-of-9 (.667) from the line.

The Pride will play twice more before the end of the regular season. Regis will travel to Nichols College on Feb. 17, then host Anna Maria College Feb. 20.

Roger Williams will travel to both Curry College and Eastern Nazarene.
