SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team kept its perfect season in The Commonwealth Coast Conference intact Wednesday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Western New England College.
The Hawks swept all six singles match in straight sets and took two out of three doubles matches to improve their TCCC record to 5-0.
Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) returned to action in his first match in almost two weeks with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #1 over Brian Relihan, while Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) extended his singles winning streak to five with a 7-5, 6-2 win over JonPaul Ouellette at #4.
Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) defeated Mike Jones 6-2, 6-3 at #2, and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) took a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Chris Holzinger at #3. Wrapping up singles play were Nate Rohman (Topsham, Maine) and Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) with wins at #5 and #6, respectively.
Relihan and Jones earned the Golden Bears' sole win of the match, with a 8-4 victory against Kleitz and David Lange (Great Neck, N.Y.) at #1 doubles.
Roger Williams (8-6, 5-0 TCCC) hosts Salve Regina University Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., while Western New England College (3-6, 2-2 TCCC) plays Endicott College Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
