Box Score
WENHAM, Mass. - The Gordon women's soccer team suffered their first defeat of the season, 1-0 at the hands of visiting Roger Williams. The Scots drop to 5-1, with the loss, 1-1 in conference action. The Hawks are now 3-3, 2-0 in TCCC action.
Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match from a nearly impossible angle in the 16th minute. Her attempted cross out of the right corner curled past Gordon goalkeeper Keri Christenson into the side of the net. That goal stood up the rest of the way as Gordon was unable to capitalize on several fine scoring chances.
Sophomore Caitline Nedde had one of the best of those changes when her shot from off the left wing clanked off the far post and deflected out. Nedde also had a second half shot from within the box, but missed wide left. Carina Scavo's shot from close range was stopped by Hawks' keeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y.) (5 saves).
The game was tightly contested throughout and that was reflected in almost every statistical category. Both teams took five shots in the first half and nine in the second. Christenson had 4 saves compared to McGee's five.
Gordon (5-1) will return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday at 3:30PM. The Hawks (3-3) will host Salve Regina at 4PM on Wednesday.
