Offensive barrage pushes Women’s Soccer to win

Box Score

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored twice in the opening 12 minutes of the match to help lift the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Anna Maria College at AMCAT Field on Wednesday evening.

Also of note was the outstanding effort of AMC goalkeeper Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) who made a 28 saves on the day; falling just one shy of the AMC record as well as her career best.

The win propels the Hawks to a 6-3 (5-0 TCCC) record on the season, while the AMCATS dip to 0-8-1 (0-5-1 TCCC) with the loss.

The Hawks got on the board early, scoring all four of their goals in the opening half. Following two unassisted tallies by Fusaro in the game's opening 12 minutes, junior Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) set-up freshman Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.) with a perfect feed, which the freshman promptly deposited in the back of the net to give the Hawks a three-goal advantage.

Freshman Jessica Reade (North Yarmouth, Maine) followed with the final score of the day just four minutes later, deflecting a cross from junior Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.) past the AMC goalie to expand the RWU lead to 4-0.

Despite facing a barrage of shots, Anna Maria goalie Tabitha Ruggeri did her best to keeper her team in the game by making 14 saves in the first half alone. She returned out of the intermission to blank the Hawks in the second half by making 14 stops in the period. In all, Ruggeri made 28 saves while facing 59 shots, including 33 on net.

The Hawks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to face New England College, while the AMCATS take to the field on Friday, facing TCCC-foe Endicott on the road at 4:00 p.m.
