Women's Soccer falls in Springfield Invitational Championship

| Box Score 2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - In the title game of the Springfield Invitational, Kelly Wallace netted two second half goals as Eastern Connecticut State toppled the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team, 3-1, on Sunday evening. The win boosts the Warriors record to 2-0 on the season, while Roger Williams drops to 1-1.

Neither team could find the back of the net if the first half, but that changed when ECSU finally broke into the scoring column after a Rachel Cutler goal. After a scramble in front of the net forced the ball just outside of the 18 yard box, Cutler sent a lofting shot towards the goal. Unfortunately for RWU, goalkeeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y.) was unable to corral the ball as it crossed the goal line and gave the Warriors a 1-0 advantage.

ECSU tacked on its second goal of the frame in the 72nd minute. Daniela Marchitto slipped a beautiful pass through the Hawks defense, which Kelly Wallace ran onto and slotted home for her first goal of the game. Wallace added her second strike with 10:05 remaining as she fired home a rebound after Marchitto's initial shot was saved.

The Hawks slipped home the game's final goal as Jessica Reade (North Yarmouth, Mass.) finished a Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) pass with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation.

For the contest, Mackenize MacLeod earned the win as she notched three saves. McGee finished with six saves between the pipes.

Roger Williams will play Curry College Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
