BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams Men's Tennis could not earn its first win of the season, as Babson College defeated the Hawks Wednesday afternoon by a 5-4 score.
The Beavers swept the three doubles matches, including a tight 9-8 (8-6) win at #3. The duo of Erik Ooi (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Ferran Arimon (Miami, Fla.) defeated the Hawks' Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Zach Bussiere (Colchester, Vt.).
The Hawks would come back to take four of the six singles matches. Bussiere defeated Roy Murdock (Santa Monica, Calif.) 6-2, 2-6, 12-10 at #3, while Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) picked up a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win at #1. Ryan Swanson beat Arimon 6-3, 6-1 at #4, while Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) earned 6-3, 6-3 decision against Ooi at #6.
Babson would clinch the victory with wins at #2 and #5, with Danny Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) defeating Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) 6-3, 7-5 and Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) beating Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at the respective positions.
Roger Williams (0-3) closes out the fall portion of the season this weekend at the Stonehill Invitational, while Babson (1-0) takes on Tufts on Friday.
