Men’s Basketball picks up another TCCC win over UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team wrapped up its third straight win with a 64-47 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks held the Nor'Easters scoreless over the first five minutes of the game, jumping out to a 10-0 lead. The Hawks would eventually take a 15-2 advantage with 12:27 left in the half on a Tom Rafael (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) three-pointer.

By the end of the period, the Hawks had held the Nor'Easters to only 13 points on 5-for-22 shooting (22.7 percent), including a 3-of-11 clip from three-point range (27.3 percent). RWU entered the break leading 24-13.

The Nor'Easters fared better offensively in the second half, shooting 47.8 percent in the period (11-for-23) and 54.5 percent from three point range (6-for-11). However, UNE could not keep up with the Hawks' offense, RWU shot a blistering 75 percent in the second half, hitting 12 of 16 shots from the field.

The Hawks led by as many as 26 and never let UNE come within nine points over the course of the half.

Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) led the Hawks with 12 points, while Matt Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored ten with six rebounds and four assists. Rafael finished with six points and seven boards in 25 minutes of action off the bench.

Charles Fenner (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 19 points while teammate Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) scored 14 points. Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Chas Rentrope (Peoria, Ariz.) each scored five points for the Nor'Easters.

Roger Williams (14-7, 6-3 TCCC) heads to Anna Maria College Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m. matchup, while the University of New England (3-18, 1-8 TCCC) travels to Endicott College on Tuesday as well.
