DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College escaped with a 5-4 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the visiting Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team Tuesday afternoon on the Francis W. Robinson Courts.

Nichols College first year Isiah Prosper (Manchester, N.H.) rallied from down 4-1 in the tiebreak to win at fifth singles. Prosper, who earlier finished off his second doubles victory on a broken racquet with sophomore Dan Young (Washington Depot, Conn.), led the Bison to their first victory over the Hawks since 2001 as Nichols improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in TCCC action. Roger Williams drops its first league match, falling to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Nichols led, 2-1, after doubles play thanks to an 8-5 victory from Prosper and Young, and an 8-3 win at the third flight from Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) and David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.).

The Bison got wins from the fourth, fifth and sixth singles flights to take the match. Young was the first to finish on the singles side with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.). Wuhrmann posted a three-set win over Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) at the sixth spot, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. With Hawks victories at the top three flights, Prosper found himself down, 4-1, in the second set tiebreak before rallying for an 8-6 win to clinch the match at the fifth singles flight, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) over Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.).

Nichols is back in action on Thursday in a 3:30 p.m. TCCC match at Curry. Roger Williams travels to Bridgewater State Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. rescheduled non-conference match.
