Men’s Tennis gets win over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – After sweeping doubles play, the Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team (8-6, 5-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference) took two of the first three singles matches to clinch the win, en route to a 7-2 win over Wentworth (2-6, 2-5) in a TCCC match at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club.

Junior Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) teamed with classmate Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) to get things started with an 8-2 win over sophomore Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) and junior Josh Welt (Oak Hill, Va.).  Junior Kevin Erickson (Tolland, Conn.) teamed with senior Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) to take an 8-1 decision over sophomore Juan Rodriquez (Quito, Ecuador) and junior Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) at number one singles before sophomore Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) teamed with sophomore Nate Roham (Topsham, Maine) for an 8-4, third doubles win over sophomore Thuan Nguyen (Randolph, Mass.) and Joel Vastl (North Salem, N.H.).

Erikson defeated Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0, at number two singles before Rodriquez remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over DeNunzio to make the score 4-1.  Freshman Taylor Webster's (Bristol, Conn.) 6-3, 6-2 win over Welt at number five singles clinched the match for the Hawks, while Kleitz defeated Gove, 6-0, 6-1, at number three and Pacino defeated Filar, 6-3, 6-1, at number four singles.  Vastl gave Wentworth its second point of the day with a three-set win over sophomore Jonathan Chandler (East Falmouth, Mass.).

Roger Williams next hosts Western New England College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
