BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Colby-Sawyer College. The win for the Hawks clinches the #2 seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
The Hawks swept doubles play, beginning with an 8-0 victory at #3 by Jonathan Chandler (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) over Oscar Svensson and Matt Trombley. The Hawks also took #2 and #3 by identical 8-3 scores, with Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) and Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) beating Rob Barnes and Adam Whitman at #2 and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) defeating Reeve Fidler and Zac Skyrme at #3.
The Hawks would go on to win five of the six matches at singles. Pacino and Nate Rohman each picked up 6-0, 6-1 wins for the Hawks, with Pacino over Svensson at #4 and Rohman winning at #6 over Trombley.
Whitman had the lone win for the Chargers, defeating Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) 6-2, 6-4 at #1.
Roger Williams (14-6, 10-1 TCCC) will host the #7 seed Salve Regina University in a rematch of last year's TCCC Championship. Colby-Sawyer ends the year with a 3-11 overall record and a 3-8 TCCC record.
