Women’s Soccer gets second straight win with double OT goal

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored the game's lone goal 15 seconds into the second overtime, sending the visiting Roger Williams Women's Soccer team to a stunning 1-0 win over Clark in non-league women's soccer action on Tuesday evening.

The victory for the Hawks is their second straight, improving the Hawks to 2-2-1 under new head coach Tim Moody, while the Cougars dip to 2-3-0.

Fusaro's marker, which came off of a feed from Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.), was a high shot fired from the left side to the upper right corner that glanced off the hand of outstretched Cougar netminder Audrey Eisemann (Worcester, Mass.) and into the net at the 100:15 mark.

Clark, meanwhile, had two golden opportunities to end the contest in the first overtime but failed to convert. First Janelle Pasternack (East Brookfield, Mass.) had a shot that banged off the crossbar at 97:25, and then Afra Danai (Amherst, Mass.) saw her attempt from the left side of the box clang off the post at 98:40.

The game was played pretty evenly throughout as Clark held a slight edge in shots (14-10) but both teams had three corner kicks and each goalkeeper – the Cougars' Eisemann and Roger Williams' Stephanie Jacques (Burlington, Vt.) - made four saves.

“We controlled most of the game and had the better scoring opportunities, with Hannah, Katie, and Jessica [Reade] getting into several good positions,” said Head Coach Tim Moody. “We looked dangerous on our set pieces and should have taken the lead in the first half. Clark as the home team were always going to get a chance or two, but we defended well and Jaques made the saves we expect from her.

“They created the better chances in the first overtime. However, we reinforced how we were going to score in the second overtime and we scored how we pictured it. We kicked off, ball to Alexa [Maher] onto Noelle [Marston], quick cross and finished with a great strike from Katie.

“It was a great way to win a game and momentum to take us into Thursday game against Brandeis. Tonight's game was a very good team performance. Everybody was involved from the warm up to the celebration of the winning goal. It was a good night for the travelling fans.”

Clark will return to action on Saturday when the visit MIT to open up NEWMAC play, while the Hawks play host to Brandeis on Thursday.
