MILTON, Mass. – Curry College shot 52% in the second half, en route to a 69-61 win over the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday night in Milton. The Colonels improve to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in CCC play, while the Hawks fall to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
After several lead changes, Curry took its biggest lead of the first half (27-20) with 1:57 remaining after a layup by junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.). A buzzer-beater jump shot by Roger Williams' freshman Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) cut the deficit to four (30-26) heading into the break.
The Colonels' biggest lead of the game (47-33) came after a layup by sophomore Brian Boyajian (Saugus, Mass.) with 14:58 left in the second period. The Hawks again pulled to within four (63-59) after junior Matt Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) connected on a three-pointer with one minute left in regulation. Curry went on to sink six free throws over the final 48 seconds to secure the victory.
Colonels' sophomore Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) poured in a team-high 25 points, while also dishing out six assists. Jones recorded a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Boyajian chipped in with 11 points.
Senior Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) led Roger Williams with a game-high 26 points. Junior Mike Engemann (Red Bank, N.J.) and Grossbard contributed 11 points apiece. Engemann and junior Mike Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) pulled down six boards each.
Both teams return to action Thursday on the road, as Curry visits the University of New England for a 7:30 p.m. CCC contest, while the Hawks travel to Gordon for an 8:00 p.m. conference matchup.
