Women’s Soccer moving on to CCC Championship

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Game with a 3-2 shootout win over Endicott College after 110 minutes of scoreless play.

The second-seeded Hawks (11-6-3) will travel north to take on the top-seeded Fighting Scots of Gordon College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Endicott bows out of the tournament with a record of 11-5-4.

Roger Williams held a 7-5 shot advantage after the first half, but neither team was able to put in a shot on net in the first period. The second half saw a much chippier game between the two squads, leading to a lack of offensive opportunities for either side. Endicott and Roger Williams combined for 17 fouls in the second half and only four shots between the two teams.

Endicott outshot the Hawks 3-1 over both overtime periods, but neither team was able to score, setting up the shootout.

Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.) knocked in the first shot of the shootout for RWU to put the Hawks up 1-0. Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) would then turn away the shot by Endicott's Micaela Hogan (Salisbury, Mass.) to keep RWU on top.

RWU's Jessica Reade (North Yarmouth, Maine) had her shot saved by Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.), while Christina Vellucci (Shrewsbury, Mass.) answered with a shot of her own to tie the shootout at one.

Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I.) and Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) stepped up next and buried their opportunities for Roger Williams. Claire Mansfield (Stoneham, Mass.) fired over the goal for Endicott, but Christine Silva (Stoneham, Mass.) put in her attempt to keep it a 3-2 Hawk lead.

Jaques would then step up for the Hawks' final attempt, but Donnelly made a diving stab to her left to give Endicott a chance to extend the shootout. However, Jaques stepped back in net and stopped the attempt by Allison Ferro (Shelton, Conn.) sending the Hawks to the championship game.
