Johnson & Wales holds down Men’s Basketball

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team fell to in-state rival Johnson and Wales University 56-68 Tuesday evening in the Hawks' final game before the Thanksgiving break.

The loss is Roger Williams' first of the season, dropping to 2-1. RWU will be at Eastern Nazarene College next Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. game. Johnson and Wales picks up its first victory on the year and will travels to Roanoke on Friday.

Johnson and Wales used an up-tempo pace early on in the game to take the lead. The Hawks led 7-4 seven minutes into the game on a Joseph Henry (Medway, Mass.) layup before Johnson and Wales score the next 12 points of the game over an eight-minute stretch to go up 18-7.

Poor shooting by the Hawks in the half put RWU in a 15-point deficit after the first period (18-33). Roger Williams shot only 5-of-23 in the period including 2-of-11 from three-point range.

In the second half, the Hawks managed to shoot a better clip, but only went 12-of-36 from the field for a .333 percentage. The Hawks did manage to get to the line a higher rate than the Wildcats, going 17-of-23 from the line as opposed to JWU's 10-of-13 line at the charity stripe.

Dan Barbour (Bridgeport, Conn.) led all scorers with 19 points on the night. Tom Garrick, Jr. (Providence, R.I.) and Curtis Lucas (Providence, R.I.) each scored 13 for JWU, with Garrick, Jr. adding six rebounds and Lucas six assists. Esaie Touze (Providence, R.I.) finished with a double-double for the Wildcats, scoring 11 points with a game-high 16 rebounds.

James LeCardi (Fair Haven, N.J.) led the Hawks with 14 points in the game. Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) had ten points and three assists, while Will Gerencer (Bowdoin, Maine) added six points and four rebounds off the bench.
