Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. — In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup today between Gordon and the visiting Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Hawks soared to an 8-1 win over the Scots to improve to 6-1 in conference play. The loss keeps the Scots winless in CCC action (0-7).

Mike Muthersbaugh (Troy, N.Y.) picked up the Scots' lone win of the day, dueling the Hawks' Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) to a three-set (3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7)) win at No. 4 singles.

The Scots found themselves at a heavy deficit after Roger Williams swept through doubles play for the early 3-0 advantage. Then, in solo action, Gary Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Jeff DeNuzio (Barrington, R.I.) duked it out at the top flight with DeNuzio eventually edging the win with a 7-6, 7-5 result. Similarly, Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) had a heated three-set battle at No. 2 until Bussiere finally took the win 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).

The remaining singles matches belonged in straight-sets to the Hawks, however, as Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.), Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.), and Jonathan Chandler (East Falmouth, Mass.) cruised through their respective matchups at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 to secure the win.

The Scots travel to Southern Maine on Monday, April 23 for a non-conference match set for 3:30p.m., while the Hawks host the CCC's Wentworth on Wednesday, April 25 at 4:00p.m.
