BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team began the 2012 season with a 5-0 win over Fitchburg State Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the 8th Annual RWU/Turfer Classic. In the process, Head Coach Jim Cook earned his 250th career win at Roger Williams. In the second game of the day, Montclair State University knocked off Baruch College by an 8-1 score.

Roger Williams (1-0-0) and Montclair State (1-0-0) will face off in the championship game tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., while Baruch (0-1-0) and Fitchburg State (0-1-0) play in the consolation game.

In the opener, the Hawks came out firing on all cylinders. Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) scored twice for RWU within the first 17 minutes of play. His first score came off a short pass by Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) into the middle of the box. Hoxsie maneuvered around the keeper for the empty netter. He later put in a header over the keeper from the left side to give RWU a 2-0 lead.

In addition to RWU's offense, the defense held Fitchburg State without a shot over the course of the entire first half.

In the second half, Kamali Webson (Bellingham, Mass.) scored his first goal of the year, heading in a corner kick from Scott Boucher (Harwinton, Conn.) less than two minutes into the period. Then in the 51st minute, Hoxsie completed the hat trick on a penalty kick to give the Hawks a 4-0 advantage. James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute off of a cross by Darren McCall (Willington, Conn.).

Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned the win for RWU, making two save in 63:55 of action.

Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took the loss, allowing four goals while stopping six shots.

In the second game, Montclair State opened the contest with three straight scores. Trey Leggett (Moorestown, N.J.), Almir Batista (Kearny, N.J.), and Brian Cullen (Clementon, N.J.) each put in score to give the Red Hawks an early 3-0 lead.

Baruch's Oren Kozlowski (Tulsa, Okla.) got the Bearcats on the board in the 32nd minute, bending a free kick around the Red Hawk defense and into the back of the net. Yet that would be all Baruch would muster over the course of the game.

Cullen and Leggett each scored again in the second half, followed by scores from Jesse Shea (Marlton, N.J.), Steven Zamudio (North Bergen, N.J.), and Michael Czyrnek (Hillsborough, N.J.).

Anthony Rogic (Boonton, N.J.) notched the win for MSU, making five saves on the day. Helder Correia (Carle Place, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Baruch, giving up three goals with three saves.
