WORCESTER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team kicked opened up the fall portion of their 2012-13 season with a 6-3 loss to Clark University in non-league action on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars (1-0) integrated newcomers with returning veterans to win for the ninth time in their last 11 matches.

Reigning NEWMAC player of the year Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) picked up right where he left off, teaming with Daniel Stein (Newton, Mass.) to collect an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) and Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.).

That win was followed by Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) and freshman Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) topping Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) and Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.), 8-5 at No. 2.

The Hawks rebounded to earn the win at No. 3 behind the combination of Eric Laboissonniere and Jonah Schwartz, who took down Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Phillip Porter (Cortland Manor, N.Y.), 8-6.

Angel led the way again in singles, taking care of Laboissonniere, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while Stein also won in Straight sets - 6-2, 6-2 – over Webster at No. 2.

Martin, playing in his first collegiate match, showed no signs of jitters, posting a straight set win over Swanson, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 and classmate Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) proved to be just as focused, knocking off Pacino (RWU) 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5.

Roger Williams registered singles wins at No. 3 where Bussiere defeated Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) 6-3, 6-4 and at No. 6 where Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) outlasted Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) in a marathon three-set showdown, 6-7, 6-3, 10-8.

The Cougars will be back in action on Monday when they play host to Endicott College, while the Hawks won't play again until the Connecticut College Invitational on Sunday, September 22.
