Both teams got off to a slow start before Hamilton opened the scoring on the night with a three at 17:04 to give the Scots a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game. Four and half minutes and eight Gordon points later, Roger Williams' Mike Engemann (Red Bank, N.J.) finally broke his team's silence with a three off a Matt Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) assist. The Scots then utilized a 7-0 run over the next four minutes and change to build their lead to 18-3 with just under nine left in the half. From there, however, the Hawks got their offense off the ground to cut the lead to seven over the next minute and, after trading points with the Scots, ended the half with a 10-0 run to make it a 29-23 game in favor of Gordon at the break.
In the second half the Hawks continued to narrow that gap, coming within three points at the 17:17 mark following a three from Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.). That was as close as they would get, though, as the Scots steadily extended their advantage throughout the half behind eight points from Miersma and Hamilton and seven from Thomas to secure the victory.
Gordon received standout play from Shaun Roach (Weymouth, Mass.), who contributed six assists, five points, four rebounds, and two steals off the bench.
Roger Williams also saw a solid effort from the bench, as Will Gerencer (Bowdoin, Maine) led his team with 11 points, while starters Mike Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) and James LeCardi (Fair Have, N.J.) had eight points apiece and Palumbo finished with seven.
The Scots return to conference play on Saturday, January 12 as they travel to Salve Regina for a 3 p.m. start. Roger Williams will play host to Wentworth on the same day also at 3 p.m.
