Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In the consolation game at the Hampton Inn/Naismith Classic at Springfield College, Colby College notched a 74-50 win over Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team Wednesday evening.

Chris Hudnut scored 24 points to lead Colby College. Hudnut was one of three players to score in double figures for the Mules. Besides his 24 points, he also pulled down eight rebounds and added one assist. He made 11-of-16 shots from the floor. Also scoring in double digits was Danny Chase with 19 points and Connor O'Neil with 11. Chase went 8-for-12 from the floor, while O'Neil was 3-for-7 from three-point range.

For Roger Williams, three players also scored in double figures. They were Matt Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) with 11 points, and Matt Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) and Will Gerencer (Bowdoin, Maine) with 10 points each.

Making the All-Tournament team were Hudnut from Colby and Gerencer from RWU.

As a team, the Mules shot very well from the floor, making 52.5 percent of its attempts overall. The Hawks, meanwhile, shot just .346 from the floor. Colby also dominated the boards, collecting 48 rebounds to RWU's 20. The Mules made 9-of-25 from behind the arc (.360).

The Hawks held a slight edge in the very early going. When James LeCardi (Fair Haven, N.J.) made a lay-up just 2:45 into the contest, RWU led 7-4. But with 14:43 to go in the opening stanza, a Hudnut lay-up gave Colby a 10-9 lead. And that put Colby in front for good.

By halftime, Colby led 35-21. Hudnut had hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left for that margin. Hudnut would score 16 of his 24 by the half. Chase tallied 11 of his 19 in the same period.

With 11:50 left in the game, the Mules had raced out to a 24-point advantage (58-34). Much later on, Colby had upped its advantage to 29 points (74-45) with 2:02 remaining on a jumper by Kareem Kalil.

SUNY Purchase won the classic championship, defeating Springfield 69-65 in the championship game.
