Men’s Basketball falls short against Endicott

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. - Endicott College held on to a late lead to narrowly win 77-74 against the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team Saturday afternoon in a thrilling Commonwealth Coast Conference game.

The Hawks drop to 6-12 (3-8 CCC) on the year, while Endicott improves to 8-10 (3-8 CCC).

The Hawks faced a tough fight from the start, as it was a back-and-forth battle throughout the entire game.  RWU was ahead by one with only 45 seconds left in the game, but Bennett Knowlton (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made two critical free throws and finished an Endicott layup to help push the Gulls past the Hawks.

The Hawks were in strong form with the game tied 69-69 with only 3:41 remaining.  The team was able to put the Gulls at a five-point deficit after a fast-break layup by Palumbo and a critical three-pointer by LeCardi with only 2:08 remaining in the contest.

The Gulls found a way to turn the tables on RWU as Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia) scored a layup to cut the RWU lead to 74-71.  The Hawks fouled White who sank both free throw attempts making it only a one point game.  Bennett Knowlton (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put the Gulls on top of the Hawks with a pair of free throws and a fast break layup to seal the game.

The Hawks were unable to find an answer to the Gulls late in the game as Endicott scored the final eight points of the game in the final two minutes.

Three Hawks reached double figures, led by James LeCardi (Fair Haven, N.J.) with 18 points and two assists.  Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) added to the Hawks' total with 15 points and four assists, while Mike Igoe added ten points and five rebounds.

Four of Endicott's starters were also able to reach double figures, led by sophomore John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) with 16 points and four assists.  Senior captain Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) also added 15 points and five assists, and sophomore Tell White (New Castle N.H.) complete his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

RWU is back on the court Tuesday to host Gordon College, while Endicott will play host to Wentworth also on Wednesday for more CCC action.
