Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 24
th-ranked Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team split its two matches at the Little Rhody Tournament Friday evening, defeating Johnson & Wales University 3-0 before being upset 2-3 to Salve Regina University.
Against JWU, the Hawks rolled to straight set wins against the Wildcats, winning by the score of 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.
Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led RWU with 12 kills and 13 digs, both match highs.
Brittany McMullen (Lancaster, Pa.) and
Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) added eight kills apiece in the win.
Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) and
Alexa Armenti (Dix Hills, N.Y.) finished with 17 and 16 assists, respectively.
In the Hawks match against Salve Regina, the Seahawks won the opening set 33-31 in a hard-fought, back-and-forth affair. The Hawks came back to win the second and third sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-9. However, Salve Regina tied the match at two apiece with a 25-14. The Seahawks would go on to take the fifth deciding set 15-12 and give the Hawks only their second loss of the season.
Luczynski led all players with 23 kills on 48 attempts without a single error, in addition to a match-high eight block assists.
Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) added 11 kills, 18 digs, and five block assists, while
Darian Tredennick (Houston, Texas) led both teams with 29 digs, while Weber and Armenti each handed out 27 assists.
Roger Williams (24-2) will look to avenge its loss to Salve Regina Wednesday as the Hawks host the Seahawks in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
