Women’s Soccer holds down Wesleyan

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team extended its current win streak to four games by breaking tradition and defeating Wesleyan University 3-0. In the previous three meetings of the squads, Wesleyan had come away a 2-1 winner each time.

The Hawks broke the ice on the scoring in the 36th minute when freshman Kristen Casey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) took a corner kick from the right side that found the head of freshman Kristen Knight (Marion, Mass.), who sent the ball from the left side back toward the right post. The ball sat bounding in front of the Cardinal net for a second before being nudged in by junior Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) for her sixth goal of the year, completing the tri-Kristen goal as the only three players on the Roger Williams squad with that first name.

Both goals for the Hawks in the second half were scored in similar fashion just two minutes apart, as senior Hannah Noel netted her fifth and sixth goals of the campaign from the left side, each on good feeds from leading scorer senior Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I.). The goals came in the 64th and 66th minutes. Lydon now has 10 goals and three assists for 23 points on the year.

Minding the Hawk net for her third shutout of the year was senior Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) as she made five saves. Junior Jessica Tollman had four stops for the Cardinals, who were outshot by their visitors, 15-8.

Wesleyan returns to the field Sat., Oct. 12, hosting Little Three and NESCAC rival Williams. Roger Williams plays its next game Thursday at home against Rhode Island College in non-conference action.
