Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Volleyball remained undefeated in the second day of competition at the RWU Invitational winning their fourth straight match in three sets over the Beavers of Babson College (25-23, 25-10, 25-12).
The match opened with a sloppy first set that saw the Hawks fall behind 17-22 before an Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) kill started a seven point run that gave the Hawks a 24-22 lead. The game ended with each team siding out to put the score at 25-23.
The Hawks built on the momentum they gained at the end of the first game to dominated the Beavers in the second and third set. The Hawks defense held the Beavers to only 9 kills and a negative hitting percentage over the last two games.
The Hawks offense was paced by a balanced attack led by senior Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) who recorded a .316 hitting percentage (10 kills, 4 errors, on 19 attempts). Setter Alexa Armenti was able to keep four attackers productive with hitting percentages over .300. As a team the Hawks hit .381 in the second set and .400 in the third. Freshman outside hitter Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) led the Hawks defense with 11 digs and freshman libero Darian Tredennick (Houston, Texas) chipped in 10.
The Hawks held a solid advantage in service aces collecting thirteen to Babson two but also led in service errors eight to six.
The Hawks return to competition at the Endicott Invitational in Beverly, Mass. to take on 2012 NCAA Regional Champion UMass-Boston on Friday September 6th at 5:00p.m.
