Endicott nets upset over #13 Women’s Soccer

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The #13-ranked Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a close 1-2 matchup to Endicott College in double overtime.

In the first half, the Hawks maintained ball pressure on the Gulls for a majority of the period. Early into the game, Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) chipped a pass from the left side to Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.), who put a bang-bang shot on net before Gull keeper Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) corralled it.

Later in the half, Noel attempted to set up Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) with a long pass from the left side. Tetreault was able to get a head on the ball but sailed the shot wide left.

The Hawks' best opportunity to score came in the 19th minute, when Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) fired a shot from 10 yards outside the box, over the goalie's head and off the top of the crossbar. Endicott was then able to clear the ball before the Hawks could get to the loose ball.

Endicott had little opportunities to get on the board. The Gulls best look was in the 43rd minute, with Audrey Parolin (Cumberland, Maine) tapped a one-time pass in the air wide left.

In the second half, Endicott began to pick up the pace, with its aggressiveness ultimately paying off. At the 63:12 mark, Laura Wysocki (Somers, Conn.) went down the right side and was able to place a short chip shot just past a jumping Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) and into the center of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Hawks responded four minutes later, with Kristen Casey (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) found Kaiser on the left side off a corner kick. Kaiser was able to head in the ball and tie the game at two apiece.

The final 20 minutes of the period saw numerous chances for both teams. Jenna Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) had a good look in front of the net, but Donnelly had a great stop on her attempt.

Taylor Geas (Somers, Conn.) and Jessica Joseph (Bedford, N.H.) had great looks as well in the box in 81st minute for Endicott, but both shots found the bodies of RWU defenders. In addition, Donnelly was able to make a pair of stops on two more shots by the Hawks in the closing minutes to help send the game into overtime.

In the first overtime period, Kaiser had a good look three minutes into the period, firing a shot from the right side but put too much on it and sailed the shot over the net. Two minutes later, Valenti made a crucial clear on a pass from Madison Missinne (Ridgefield, Conn.) that had potential to be a two-on-none.

In the second double overtime period, Wysocki found herself chasing a ball in the air with a Hawk defender on her. As Jaques came out to capture the ball, Wysocki was able to get a foot on the ball, knocking it over Jaques as it slowly rolled just into the left corner of the net to give Endicott the win.

Roger Williams (6-1-1, 1-1-0 CCC) hosts Springfield College next while Endicott (4-3-1, 1-0-0) welcomes Babson next, with both games on Tuesday.
