Volleyball collects opening weekend honors

Luczynski receives RWU Tournament MVP and CCC Player of the Week, McMullen earns Rookie of the Week, and Flaherty collects All-Tournament Honors.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Volleyball collects opening weekend honors. Coach Ben Somera comments, "Individual success is the product of team success. When an individual on our team receives recognition there are 18 other players who can take pride in her accomplishments."

Player of the Week - Senior middle blocker Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) played a key role as the Hawks opened the 2013 season with a 4-0 record. Luczynski hit over .300 in every match this past week averaging a .383 hitting percentage. She racked up 43 kills with three double-digit matches, recording 11, 16, and 10 kills. The senior also recorded ten service aces, 12 digs, and four assists on the week. Luczynski was named the RWU Invitational MVP.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman middle blocker Brittany McMullen (Lancaster, Pa.) helped lead her team to a 4-0 record, while collecting the third most kills for the Hawks (24) in the opening weekend. McMullen hit over .350 in three of the matches with a current hitting percentage of .417, which ranks first for the Hawks. The freshman also contributed 0.46 blocks per set in her college debut.

RWU Invitational All Tournament – Elizabeth Flaherty earn all-tournament team honors racking up 53.5 points in four matches. Flaherty leads the team in digs with 37 and is tied for service aces with Luczynski at 10. Flaherty is currently hitting .267 (41 kills, 13 errors, on 105 attempts).
