Women’s Volleyball picks up two wins on the first day of the Endicott Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team soars past UMass Boston Beacons (28-26, 25-14, 25-11) and Plymouth State Panthers (24-26, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15) at the Endicott Invitational.  The Hawks remain undefeated and improve to 6-0.

The Hawks fired on all cylinders in the afternoon match with the UMass Boston Beacons.  Senior setter, Alexa Armenti (Dix Hills, N.Y.) evenly distributed the RWU offense for a .323 hitting percentage.  Sophomore outside hitter, Liz Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led the Hawks with 11 kills and 13 digs. Junior opposite, Anne Gorman chipped in 9 kills and 8 digs on her way to posting a team best .438 hitting percentage.  Senior middle blocker, Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.), freshman middle blocker Brittany McMullen (Lancaster, Pa.), and freshman outside hitter, Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) each added 8 kills.  Freshman, libero, Darian Tredennick (Houston, Texas) anchored the RWU defense with 15 digs.

Freshman middle blocker, Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) led the Beacon attack with 7 kills and freshman Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) picked up 13 digs.

Coach Ben Somera commented, "We played really well against a quality opponent.  It was great to see our team have success in the areas we focused on in the gym this week.  Our defensive movement was well coordinated and our players away from the ball maintained system integrity.  Our transition offense was in good rhythm whether we attacked front or back court regardless of whether the ball was from Alexa or a non setter.

The Hawks got off to a slow start in their second match with the Plymouth State Panthers dropping the first game before coming back to win the next three sets decisively.  Coach Ben Somera said, "We went through the motions in the first game and it cost us that set.  Our first contacts steady out in the second game and we were able to establish our offense and create better defensive opportunities for the rest of the match.

The Hawks return to action with two more matches at the Endicott Invitational in Beverly, Mass. taking on the Gators of Sage College at 10:00am and the Purple Cows of Williams College at 2:00pm.
