Men’s Basketball downed by Endicott

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Endicott College claimed its sixth straight win with a 91-76 victory over the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team Thursday evening.

The Hawks struggled from the field, shooting only 39.7 percent in the game including going only 1-for-13 from three-point range, with the lone make a buzzer-beating bank shot by Travis Fonseca (Bridgeport, Conn.) to close out the first half. Despite the woes from the field, the Hawks remained within striking distance for most of the game, thanks to a 29-of-34 performance from the free throw line.

John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored a layup off the opening tip then followed with a three-pointer for a quick 5-0 Endicott lead. Chris Bardwell (North Andover, Mass.) dropped in a put-back basket on the following Hawk possession, followed by a Joseph Henry (Medway, Mass.) three-point play to tie the game. Endicott answered with a layup by Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia) to go back on top.

Endicott would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the first half. Despite shooting 39.4 percent in the period, Roger Williams maintained to keep the deficit at single digits throughout the period. Fonseca's last-second three-pointer helped pull RWU within four and the Hawks went into the break down 39-43.

In the second half, Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) was able to pull the Hawks within one (45-46) early on in the period. Yet Endicott built the lead back up to eight with seven straight points. RWU remained in the hunt, keeping the deficit at single digits and coming within six (62-68) with just over nine minutes to play.

However, the Hawks shot 2-for-9 over an eight-minute stretch that hindered their chance to earn the win. EC took an 11-point lead with 3:04 to play and never looked back.

Four players scored in double figures for Endicott, including Henault with 16 points, Magee with 12, Daquan Simpson with 14 and 11 rebounds, and Tell White (New Castle, N.H.).

Bardwell tied a career-high with 22 points while going 10-for-10 from the line. Palumbo picked up his second double-double of the season with 18 points and ten rebounds. Fonseca added six points and two steals.

On Saturday, Roger Williams heads to Boston to face Wentworth Institute of Technology, while Endicott goes to Curry.
