Women’s Volleyball takes two on Day 1 of UMass-Boston Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team notched two wins in the first day of the University of Massachusetts-Boston Invitational, winning both its matches by 3-0 scores against Emerson College and Colby-Sawyer College.

Against Emerson, the Hawks rolled to the easy win. Roger Williams defeated the Lions by scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-10. Brittany McMullen (Lancaster, Pa.) led the Hawks with 11 kills on .529 hitting while adding three blocks (one solo, two assist). Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) added seven kills and 14 digs, while Sarah McAniff (Redding, Conn.) contributed six kills and 13 digs. Josalyn Benson (Phoenix, Ariz.) handed out 27 assists, while Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) added 12.

In the Hawks match versus Colby-Sawyer, the match was a bit closer, as the Hawks took the first two sets by identical 25-16 scores. The Chargers made things close in the second set, but the Hawks eventually emerged with the 25-22 win. Flaherty and Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) each led RWU with 13 kills, while McMullen added 12. Weber finished with a match-high 39 assists, while Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) had a match-high 19 digs.

The two wins for the Hawks extends the team's winning streak to 13 straight matches.

Roger Williams (14-4) will continue day two of the UMass-Boston Invitational Saturday against UMass-Boston and Trine University.
