Women’s Soccer moves on to CCC Semifinals

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team made their way to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 4-0 win over Nichols College Saturday afternoon.

CCC Offensive Player of the Year Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) got things started for the Hawks in the first half. Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) fed her a pass up the middle in the 33rd minute. Kaiser gained possession and notched a shot to the middle of the net for her 15th score of the season.

She would add to the RWU lead with just over a minute to play in the first period. Carla Salcedo (Mexico City, Mexico) sent a through pass up to the right side to Kaiser. She would hit a long shot that bounced off the crossbar, then off of the right post and trickled in the net to put RWU on top 2-0.

RWU almost added another score in the 52nd minute, with Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) taking a shot from the middle of the penalty area. However, Nichols' Erica Antonison (Albertson, N.Y.) was able to jump in front of the shot and deflect it away from harm.

Kaiser came close to tallying a hat trick in the 60th minute, taking a one-time pass from Tetreault on the right side of the box. She kicked a good hard shot to the right side, but a heads-up save by Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) kept the Bison deficit at two.

However, the Hawk offense would not be stopped for long. In the 72nd minute, Kaiser brought the ball down the left side of the field a kicked a crossing pass to Tetreault in the middle of the penalty area. Tetreault would bury the shot in the right corner to put the Hawks on top 3-0.

Rebecca Smith (Portland, Maine) tallied the final goal for Roger Williams. Salcedo put a cross pass into the box but had the ball bounce off of the crossbar. Smith was in perfect position for the rebound and put the shot into the right corner for her first career goal.

Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) had four saves for the Hawks in the shutout win. English stopped six shots in the loss.

Roger Williams (16-2-3) will host the #5 seed Gordon College on Tuesday, November 4. Nichols closes out the season at 7-12-0.
