Johnson & Wales takes down Men’s Basketball

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University dropped a 69-47 contest to in-state rival Johnson & Wales University Tuesday evening.

Robert Lewis (Providence, R.I.) scored the first basket of the game for JWU. Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) later utilized a three-point play to give RWU a 5-4 advantage. Both teams battled back and forth throughout most of the first half, with the two squads combining for four ties and five lead changes. By the end of the period, both teams entered the break tied at 24.

Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, N.Y.) laid in a basket to break the tie before Jennings responded for RWU. The two teams traded baskets before another lay-in by Greenaway helped spark a 14-4 run for the Wildcats.

The double-digit deficit proved to be too much for RWU to overcome. A dunk by Lewis with 2:23 to play gave JWU its largest lead (68-42), as the Wildcats rolled to the win.

Greenaway notched a double-double for the Wildcats, scoring 24 points with 15 rebounds. Jarell Lawson (Providence, R.I.) added 12 points and six rebounds, while Tom Garrick, Jr. (Seekonk, Mass.) finished with 11 points and eight boards.

Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) led the Hawks with 12 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Jennings added 11 points and two rebounds. Alex Puzone (North Haven, Conn.) finished with seven points and four rebounds.

Roger Williams (1-4) heads to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, while Johnson & Wales (3-0) travels to Brown University on Sunday.
