Men’s Tennis rolls to 9-0 win over UMass-Dartmouth

Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. —The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team spoiled the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 2014 home opener this afternoon, sweeping the Corsairs 9-0 at the UMD Tennis Courts.

The Hawks won their second straight match to improve to 3-2, while the Corsairs slipped to 0-2.

In doubles, Roger Williams utilized a fast start to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage. The Hawks top-flight tandem of junior Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) and sophomore Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) defeated senior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.), 8-4. Junior Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Andrew Amarone (North Haven, Conn.) padded the visitors lead with an 8-2 win over junior Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) and freshman Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.). Roger Williams completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles, when junior Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and sophomore Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) held junior Malcolm Neville (Foxboro, Mass.) and freshman Wilson Hy (Boston, Mass.) scoreless.

The Hawks continued to apply the pressure in the singles competitions, winning each of the six flights in straight sets. Laboissonniere earned a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Bejtlich at top-flight singles, while Chouinard and Lawton forced a first set, tie-breaker at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Roger Williams won the remaining three matches in convincing fashion to earn its second victory in its past three matches.

UMass Dartmouth will open its Little East Conference schedule at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, when the Corsairs host Salem State University.
