Field Hockey downs Nichols in OT for program’s first CCC win

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory in program history Wednesday evening with a 4-3 overtime victory over Nichols College.

Freshman Juliana Miccile (Upton, Mass.) scored her first two collegiate goals – including the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime – to give the Hawks (3-3, 1-1 CCC) their first-ever conference win.

Nichols Senior Avery Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.) scored two goals.  Senior Kaylee McNamara (Watertown, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the Bison (2-5, 0-2 CCC), who outshot the Hawks 18-9.

Nichols led 2-1 at halftime behind goals from McNamara at 4:03 and Orszulak at 31:25. Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) had an unassisted mark – her fifth of the season – which was sandwiched between the two Bison goals and came at 26:45. Seniors Rachel Dalrymple (Belvidere, N.J.) and Lindsey Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.) were credited with assists on the Nichols goals.

Curran's sixth of the season off a feed from Miccile 30 seconds into the second half tied the game at two. Miccile's first collegiate goal at 41:27 put the Hawks in front 3-2 before Orszulak's team-leading fifth goal seven minutes later knotted the game at three. Miccile won the game at 81:33 when she broke in 2-on-1, pulled back and ripped a shot into the left side of the net.

Freshman Meghan Augur (North Branford, Conn.) registered six saves to earn her first collegiate win. Sophomore Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) replaced senior and starting goalie Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) early in the second half and took the loss. Neither Nichols goalie was credited with a save.

The Bison return to action on September 23 when they head to Gordon for a 7 p.m. contest. Roger Williams plays at Gordon Saturday at 1 p.m.
