Women’s Soccer ties with Western New England in scoreless contest

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Western New England University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Both teams now sit at 1-0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while Roger Williams moving to 5-2-1 overall and Western New England going to 2-4-2.

The Roger Williams offense was in full attack mode all game, as the Hawks outshot the Golden Bears 27-3 over the course of the game, including holding Western New England without a shot in either overtime period.

However, a mixture of inaccuracy and timely Golden Bear defense foiled the Hawks' ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. One of the Hawks' best chances to score came with seconds to play in regulation. Taylor Provost (Peabody, Mass.) just hooked a shot wide off of a corner kick with under 15 seconds to play in the second half.

Western New England's Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) had eight stops in the game for the Golden Bears to collect her third shutout of the year. Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) earned her fifth clean sheet of the season, needing only one save.

Roger Williams will travel to Johnson & Wales University Monday for a 7 pm game. Western New England hosts Elms College on Tuesday at 4 pm.
