Wrestling repeats as Champs at NEWA Duals Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Wrestling team successfully defends the New England Wrestling Association Duals Championship hosted at Springfield College. The Hawks enter the tournament as the top seed amoung the fifteen programs participating.

After advancing to the finals with decisive wins over Worcester Polytechnic and Coast Guard the Hawks found themselves trailing 15-0 in the Tournament finals to Pilgrim League rival Johnson and Wales, Ty Herzog stopped the Wildcats momentum by earning a 6 points fall in the 157 lb match to bring the score to 15-6. Francisco Colom followed up with a close 2 decision for the Hawks to bring the score to 15-9. Daniel Ressler earned a 1 point decsion to keep the Hawks comeback alive and put the team score at 15-12. Joe Albina took the mat at 184 and picked up 12-8 decision to level tehe team score at 15-15. David Welsh gave the Hawks it first lead in the team score with a 9-6 decision and Kyle Foster closed out the match with a pin that brought the final score to 24-15.

Herzog and Welch went a perfect 3-0 in their matches at the tournament while Ressler,Colom and Albina went 2-0.

The Hawks will be on the road again next weekend to partipate at the NEWA Metro Dual Challenge at Ewing Township, N.J. hosted at the College of New Jersey at 12:00 p.m.
