MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-American Awards. The Roger Williams University Wrestling team had five Hawks selected for the honor including Jack Forte, Tommy Iasello, Tyrell Newmann, Joshua Nieroda, and Jayden Toppan.
The qualifying criteria for Scholar All-American is to hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and, at minimum, place in the top eight at the regional tournament or wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66.
Forte, a Criminal Justice major who is holding a 3.3 GPA, went 22-7 on the season in the 157-weight class. Forte finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship.
Also a Criminal Justice major holding a 3.4 GPA, Iasello went 23-11 in the 149-weight class.
Wrestling in the 165-weight class, Newmann went 23-7 on the season. Majoring in Criminal Justice, Newmann holds a 3.59 GPA.
A Finance major and holding a 3.48, Nieroda finished 22-13 on the season in the 184-weight class. Nieroda finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship.
Toppan, a Sports Management major holding a 3.42 GPA, secured a 22-11 record in the 285-weight class on the season. Toppan finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship.
