Field Hockey ready for first-ever playoff appearance

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – Roger Williams University clinched the fourth seed for the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Field Hockey Championship, earning its first berth to the postseason in program history.

CCC tiebreaking procedures were used to determine the fourth and final seed in the tournament field, as both Roger Williams and Western New England posted identical 5-7 conference records. As the two teams split their two regular-season games, records against other CCC teams were compared from the top of the standings downward until one team gained an advantage.

Both teams posted identical records against the top two seeds, UNE and Salve Regina, but Roger Williams was the only one of the tied teams to earn victory over third-seeded Endicott. That gave the Hawks the fourth and final spot in the tournament.
University of New England has claimed the top seed for the tournament, which begins with a pair of semifinal matchups on campus sites Wednesday, November 4.

Currently ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division III New England East regional rankings, the Nor'easters (14-6 overall) earned the top seed in the conference tournament after posting an 11-1 record in CCC play. UNE will host #4 seed Roger Williams (8-12 overall, 5-7 CCC) in one semifinal Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

Salve Regina (16-3, 10-2) earned the second seed in the tournament and will host #3 seed Endicott College (10-9, 8-4) at 7:00 p.m. in the other semifinal.

Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, November 7 at the site of the higher seed at a start time to be announced.
