Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team fell in Commonwealth Coast Conference action, dropping an 87-79 overtime contest to Western New England University Tuesday evening.
The Hawks held a six-point halftime lead, holding off the Golden Bears 40-34. In addition, RWU shot 57.1 percent (16-for-28) from the field while outrebounding Western New England 18-9.
In the second half, the Hawks held a five-point lead (63-58) with just under five minutes left to play. However, the Golden Bears clawed their way back into the game, sinking a pair of free throws with just over a minute to play to tie the game at 71. The Hawks managed only one possession over the final minute, but managed to hold WNE 0-for-3 over that stretch to force overtime.
In the extra period, WNE held a slim 77-74 lead with just over two minutes left, but was able to put the game away at the free throw line, going 10-for-12 at the stripe to close out the game.
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while
Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) and
Alex Puzone (North Haven, Conn.) added 15 points each.
Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) also added eight points and eight rebounds.
Roger Williams University Williams (4-4, 2-1 CCC) will be in action at the Clark Tournament on December 29 against Worcester State.
