Men’s Tennis wins CCC opener over Western New England

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team defeated Western New England University 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

The Hawks began the day with a 3-0 sweep at doubles before collecting two wins at singles. RWU took #1 and #3 doubles by identical 8-4 scores, with Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) and Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.) taking the first flight match over Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy). Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) and Andrew Amarone (North Haven, Conn.) earned the other win at #3 over Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) and Adam Zimmerman (South Windsor, Conn.).

The Golden Bears gave the Hawks all they could handle at #2, but in the end Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) and Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) were able to edge PJ Nassar (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Greg Tischofer (Portland, Conn.).

At singles play, Bull grabbed the win at #5 singles, getting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Zimmerman, while Bussiere won 6-2, 6-0 over Sause at #2. The Hawks led by a set in the other four matches.

Roger Williams (3-3, 1-0 CCC) will be back in action tomorrow against UMass-Dartmouth, while Western New England (3-3, 0-1 CCC) hosts Curry College on Saturday.
