Men’s Soccer earns second straight shutout win

Box Score 1 BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout over Fitchburg State University Saturday morning in the first game of the 2015 Roger Williams University Squad Locker Invitational.
 
The Hawks got on the board early and never looked back in the game. James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) earned his second tally of the season, knocking in a 50-footer shot in the 17th minutes to give Roger Williams a 1-0 lead.
 
Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) followed suit less than a minute later, scoring his first goal of the season to put the Hawks on top 2-0.
 
From there, the Hawks would cruise to the win. Roger Williams outshot the Falcons 17-6 in the contest while holding Fitchburg State to only two shots in the first half.
 
Carsten Fredickson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) picks up his second straight shutout victory, stopping two shots on the day. Connor Smith took the loss for Fitchburg State.
 
In the second game of the day, Vassar and Salve Regina battled to a 2-2 double overtime draw. Jordan Palmer gave Vassar a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute before Salve's Issa Demirgioglu tied the contest just before the end of the first half.
 
Riche Finizio gave the Seahawks the lead in the 54th minute with a goal of his own before Tyler Gilmore tied the game with three minutes to play. Neither team would tally another score in extra time to end the game in the 2-2 tie.
 
Roger Williams will play Vassar in the early game at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, followed by Fitchburg State and Salve Regina.
