Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team snapped a five-game skid with a 53-47 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Hawks were aided in large part to a strong defensive effort in the first half, holding the Wentworth to only 5-of-25 shooting in the period. The Leopards began the game missing their first 11 shots from the field. The team was unable to get on the board until the 9:57 mark of the first half.
Conversely, Roger Williams managed to stake a 13-0 lead before Wentworth logged its first score of the game.
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) gave RWU its largest lead of the contest with 2:36 left in the period, putting in a layup to put the Hawks on top by 17 (26-9). Roger Williams would eventually take a 15-point advantage (28-13) into the break and appeared to be headed towards an easy win.
However, in the second half, the Leopards moved to a zone defense that the Hawks had trouble breaking throughout the entire period. Wentworth managed to force 13 turnovers in the period while improving its shooting in the half to 38.2 percent (13-for-34).
The Leopards managed to pull within one with just under six minutes to play (41-42), but another scoring drought kept them from completing the comeback. Wentworth went 0-for-5 from the field, as well as missing all three free throws on a foul from behind the arc over a five-minutes stretch that allowed RWU to increase the lead to eight (49-41). The Hawks eventually came away with the six-point win.
Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) led RWU with 18 points and four assists.
Trevor Fahmy (Bedford, N.H.) added three points, 12 boards, and two blocks, while
