Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team finished the second day of the RWU Invitational 1-1 with a 3-2 win over Coast Guard and a 0-3 loss to Johnson & Wales.

On the first match of the day, the Hawks would drop the opening set 19-25 to Coast Guard. The set was very close for most of the round, yet the turning point came when the Bears broke a 14-14 tie with four straight points and force a Hawk timeout. RWU would eventually come back and pull within two (18-20), but Coast Guard ended the set on a 5-1 run for the 1-0 advantage.

In the second set, RWU jumped out to a 6-2 lead, eventually building it to 17-9. Coast Guard climbed its way back into the game, trimming the deficit to only two (19-21). However, the Hawks notched the final three points to tie the match at one apiece.

In the third set, the Hawks broke a six-all tie with four straight points leading to a Coast Guard timeout. After the break, the Hawks continued the run, building their lead to 18-9. The deficit proved to be too much for the Bears to overcome, as the Hawks took the 2-1 lead with the 25-16 win in set three.

The fourth set saw the Bears utilize a significant scoring run to break away from RWU and force a deciding fifth set. With Coast Guard holding a slim 8-6 advantage, the Bears rolled off a 16-3 run to bring it to game point. The Bears would eventually come away with the 25-11 win.

The Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the fifth set before the Hawks roared back with six of the next seven points for a 7-5 lead. RWU would then build that lead to five and compel the Bears to call time out. The Bears answered back, eventually making it 13-14 game in favor of RWU, but
Sarah McAniff (Redding, Conn.) would log the match-winning kill for RWU.

Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) finished with eight kills, 16 digs, and five block assists.
Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) notched 26 digs, while
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added 21 assists.

Angelou Dunton (Seattle, Wash.) led all with 17 kills to go aong with 15 digs. Susan West (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) added 12 kills and three block assists. Makenna Martin (Granbury, Texas) finished with a match-high 34 assists.

In the second match of the day against Johnson & Wales saw the Hawks put up a good fight against the undefeated Wildcats, but it would not be enough. The opening set saw RWU trail for most of the game until breaking a 15-all tie to take the lead. The Hawks even managed to get to set point (24-23), but JWU scored the final three points to steal the game.

JWU jumped out to an 8-3 lead to begin the second set before the Hawks came back to pull within one (9-10). However a 10-3 run put an end to the Hawks rally. RWU would not be able to come closer than seven as the Wildcats took the second set 25-17. Then in the final set, RWU fell in a 0-5 hole and were unable to get out of it. JWU built its lead to 15-4 and eventually took the match 25-15.

Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) led JWU with 12 kills and four blocks, while Brylee Frank (Palm City, Fla.) notched 31 assists and 17 digs.

Boyer had a team-high 11 kills, with Batas and
Meghan Chartier (West Point, N.Y.) each adding 17 digs. Fields logged 28 assists for the Hawks.
