Men’s Basketball Wins Courtyard By Marriott Tip-Off

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball won the Courtyard By Marriott Tip-Off Classic with a 92-61 win over Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon. Clark University finished in third place, using a late three to win 71-70 over Newbury College.
 
Roger Williams' Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.), who was named Tournament MVP, finished with a game-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds and five assists. All-Tournament Team selection Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) added 24 points including six three-pointers. Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) finished with 15 points off the bench.
 
Rhode Island College's Benjamin Vezele (Providence, R.I.) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while being named to the All-Tournament team. Justin Campbell (New Haven, Conn.) added 13 points and six rebounds, with Jimmy Fritzson (Sharon, Mass.) going for 12 points and three boards.
 
A blistering shooting first half for Roger Williams put the Anchormen in a deficit they could not climb out of. RWU shot .563 from the field in the first period, led by Wasik's 22 points and six treys in the half. The Hawks took a 20-point lead into halftime (51-31) and maintained the advantage throughout the second half.
 
In the Consolation Game between Newbury and Clark, the Cougars rallied from five points down with just over two minutes to pull off the win. Trailing by two, Clark's Luca McCormick (Bradenton, Fla.) hit the game-winning three-pointer with 9.1 seconds left to push the Cougars towards the win.
 
McCormick finished with 22 points and ten rebounds while being named to the All-Tournament team. David Mercier (Milford, Mass.) also had a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.
 
Newbury's Jeduan Langston (Roxbury, Mass.) had 17 points and five rebounds, in addition to making the All-Tournament team. Daivon Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) scored 13 points off the bench.
