Men’s Basketball Sets Down Conn. College

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team returned from Thanksgiving break with a 79-64 win over Connecticut College Sunday afternoon.

Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished with a game-high 21 points for Roger Williams, to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) added 17 points and five assists, while Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) contributed 15 points off the bench.

Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) went for 18 points and nine rebounds for the Camels in the game. Tyler Rowe (East Hartford, Conn.) finished with 12 points and three steals, while David Labossiere (Stoneham, Mass.) added 11 points and three steals as well.

It was a tightly contested game over the first four minutes of play, with neither team holding more than a two-point lead. That would change soon, as the Hawks broke a six-all tie with a 9-0 run to go on top 15-6 with 12:51 left in the first half. The Camels quickly cut it back to two (13-15) over the next two minutes of play.

Yet the Hawks never let Connecticut College regain the lead over the remainder of the half. The Camels made it a one-possession game but could not go back on top. Roger Williams went into the break with a 37-33 lead.

The tide turned in Connecticut College's favor early in the half, as a three-point play by Rowe gave the Camels their first lead (41-40) since the opening basket. Conn. College eventually took its largest lead of the game with 11 minutes to play, a 53-47 advantage.

The Hawks would climb their way back in the game, using a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to go from a six-point deficit to a six-point lead (59-53) with just over five minutes remaining. That would be all the cushion the Hawks would need, as they extended it to ten with just under three minutes left and held on for the win.

Roger Williams (4-1) begins Commonwealth Coast Conference play Wednesday evening with a 7:30 pm game against Nichols College. Connecticut College (3-1) will host NEWMAC opponent Clark University on Tuesday.
