Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team set down Curry College Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over the Colonels in RWU's final home match of the regular season.
Prior to the match, the program recognized seniors
Andrew Amarone (North Haven, Conn.),
Eric Bott (Pleasantville, N.Y.),
Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.), and
Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) for their contributions to the team over the past four years.
At doubles, the Hawks swept #2 and #3 by 8-0 scores. Amarone and
Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) won at #2 over Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.) and Mike Mathieu (Paxton, Mass.) . At #3, Bott and
Matthew Russo (Branford, Conn.) rolled over Dan Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) and Sergie Evans (New York, N.Y.). Laboissonniere and Schwartz surrendered two games at #1 to Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) but still rolled to the 8-2 win.
At singles, Amarone and Bott each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins over Ritucci and Nizar Akkawi (West Falmouth, Mass.) at #5 and #6, respectively. Schwartz won his #3 match 6-0, 6-1 against Paltsios, while Spoor earned his #4 win over Mathieu by the same score. At #1, Laboissonniere picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win against Blatchford while
Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) wrapped up the win for RWU by defeating Helfer 6-1, 6-2 at #2.
Roger Williams (12-3, 6-1 CCC) will travel to Western New England on Tuesday for a chance at the regular season CCC title and a #1 seed for the upcoming CCC Tournament. Curry (1-18, 0-7 CCC) ends the year against Gordon on Tuesday.
