Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Eastern Connecticut State University in the team's 2016 season opener at the Springfield College Invitaional.
The Warriors were led to victory behind goals from Nikki Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.) and McKenzie Reimando (Portland, Conn.).
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Kaley Kennedy (Enfield, Conn.) picked up her first shutout of the season, as she notched three saves in the win, while her counterpart,
Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) made seven stops on the afternoon.
Eastern Connecticut got on the board first, with 8:22 remaining in the first half, when Tara Shayler (Avon, Conn.) sent in Basilicato all alone on the goal, before the junior tucked a shot past Martin to give the Warriors a 1-0 edge.
After back-and-forth play for a majority of the second half, Eastern Connecticut was provided insurance, when Reimondo sent in a corner, that deflected off the post, and squeaked through the hands of Martin to make it 2-0, Warriors.

Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) made seven saves in the loss.
Eastern Connecticut was able to fend off a late charge from the Hawks to escape with the 2-0 win. On Saturday, Roger Williams will host Westfield State back at Springfield College at 4 p.m., while the Warriors will take on the Pride at 6:15 p.m.
