Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team extended its winning streak to eight straight Wednesday evening with an 81-69 win over Western New England University. The Hawks rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to come away with the win.
The Hawks found themselves behind early, as WNE's Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored the first five points of the game. Western New England never trailed in the first half, leaving Roger Williams to play catchup.
Halfway into the first period, The Golden Bears quickly turned a two-point lead to nine point advantage. With 11:52 to play in the half, Western New England scored seven quick points in just under two minutes to make it a 22-13 lead. With 7:01 left in the quarter, WNE took its largest lead of the game, a 33-19 lead over the Hawks.
The Hawks would fight back, pulling within four with just under two minutes left (32-36), but would ultimately go into halftime down by six.
Western New England continued to hold off Roger Williams throughout the early part of the second half. The Hawks slowly crawled their way back into the game, eventually taking their first lead of the game on a
Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) jumper for a 50-49 lead with 13:16 left.
The Hawks held on to the slim lead for most of the remainder of the half. However, the Hawks would put the game away late thanks to an 11-0 run that extended RWU's lead from four to 15 (78-63) with 2:08 to play. RWU would go home happy with the 12-point win.
Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) led RWU with 27 points in addition to nine rebounds. O'Brien earned his third straight double-double with 11 rebounds and a season-high 23 points.
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) added 14 points, six boards, and five assists.
Daniel Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) led Western New England with 17 points, while Pettway finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and five dimes.
On Saturday, Roger Williams (12-2, 6-1 CCC) heads to Gordon while Western New England (1-10, 1-6 CCC) hosts Eastern Nazarene.
