Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team utilized a late run to come away with a 73-66 win over Endicott College Tuesday evening.
Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) began the game with a three-pointer for Endicott, giving the Gulls a lead that they would hold on to for most of the early part of the half. Roger Williams took its first lead of the half at the 8:55 mark on a pair of
Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) free throws for a 13-12 Hawk advantage.
Dalton Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.) doubled RWU's lead with a layup two possessions later, but Endicott responded with an 8-0 run for a four-point lead of their own. Roger Williams managed to tie the game at 21 on a layup by
Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) but the Gulls came right back with a free throw by Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.).
From there, Endicott would roll off eight more points to make it a 30-21 game with 1:45 left in the quarter. Roger Williams cut into the deficit but still trailed 32-26 at the end of the half.
In the second half, Endicott staved off an early half run, as RWU pulled within one over the first three minutes of the period. The Gulls continued to hold onto the lead for most of the half, with Motroni hitting a deep three off of a fast break with 7:55 left for a 54-45 advantage over RWU.
The Hawks would not be deterred, chipping away at the deficit until
Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) buried a three with 3:31 left to knot the game at 60 piece, followed by
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) knocking down one of two free throws on the next possession to put RWU up by one.
Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) came through late for the Hawks with a three-pointer to give RWU a 66-64 lead with 1:06 left. Then after a missed basket by EC, he would come down again and drill another trey to put the Hawks up by five with 27 seconds to go. A missed three by Endicott on the other end followed by a pair of O'Brien free throws put the game away for RWU.
O'Brien and Coene each finished with 20 points for the Hawks, with O'Brien adding 11 rebounds for another double-double. Marini came close to a double-double of his own with nine points and eight rebounds.
Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) led Endicott with 25 points while Lipscomb finished with 18 points and six boards. Motroni added 13 for the Gulls
On Saturday, Roger Williams (13-3, 7-2 CCC) heads to Curry while Endicott (12-4, 7-2 CCC) hosts Eastern Nazarene.
