Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team bounced back Saturday afternoon with a 64-58 win over Eastern Nazarene College.
Eastern Nazarene's Corey Doran (Fairfield, Calif.) began the game with a fastbreak layup for the Lions on the team's first possession. From there, Eastern Nazarene maintained the lead for most of the beginning of the first half.
The Hawks tied the game at 16 at the 11:17 mark but were unable to take the lead until later in the period.
Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) gave RWU its first lead at 6:19 after he jumped the passing lane, stole the ball, and converted a layup for a 21-19 advantage.
Roger Williams would build the lead to eight but eventually went into halftime up by five (31-26).
The second half saw Eastern Nazarene pull their way back into the game early on. The Lions tied the game twice in the first two minutes of play but were unable to regain the lead. Roger Williams broke a 33-all tie at the 18:07 mark with a 9-2 run to go back up by seven. The Lions continued to stay close to the Hawks but could not go back on top.
Eastern Nazarene managed to tie the game at 46 on a pair of Doran free throws with eight minutes left. However the Hawks still held off the Lions with timely shooting from the floor and the foul line.
Four Hawks scored in double figures, including
Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) with a team-high 20 points.
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) finished with 12 points and five assists, while
Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) went for seven points and 13 rebounds.
Doran led all scorers with 22 points off the bench. Christian Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) added 12 points and seven rebounds, with David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) going for five points, eight boards, and six assists.
On Tuesday, Roger Williams (15-4, 9-3 CCC) hosts Salve Regina, with Eastern Nazarene (9-10, 6-6 CCC) heading to Wentworth.
