Box Score BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team fell to Endicott College 4-2 Friday night at Bayside Field in their final game of 2017.
The Hawks entered the Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup with a 5-11 overall record and 3-8 in the CCC. They were coming off a 5-1 loss to Western New England University Wednesday, October 25. Prior to the game, the Endicott Gulls were tied for the top seed in the CCC rankings with University of New England. They had an overall record of 15-3 and 10-1 in conference games.
The Hawks took the first shots of the game only two minutes into play. Shots by
Emma Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) and
Elizabeth Whitney (Norwalk, Conn.) were both saved by Gulls goalie Taylor Farrin.
The Gulls added two more goals in the the 9
th and 13
th minutes. The first goal was scored by Sophia Cogliano and assisted Maggie O'Reilly. This was her 23
rd goal of the season. The second goal was assisted by Cogliano but scored by Jaylin Grabau.
The Gulls added another goal with 13 minutes left in the half. Cogliano tried to grab another goal but it was blocked by goalie
Mya Lunn (Mario, Mass.). Off the rebound, Emylee Wood scored for her seventh goal of the season.
The Gulls outshot the Hawks in the first half 15-2. Lunn had seven saves.
The Gulls extended their lead in the 25
th minute of the second half to 4-0. Off the corner by Emylee Wood, Madi Wood grabbed the pass in and then sent it over to Courtney Brown, whom put it in the net for her first goal of the season.
The Hawks stayed away from a shut out in the 32
nd minute with a goal by
Lea Peterson (Upton, Mass.).
Jenna Clavette (Enfield, Conn.) passed to the middle, where Peterson was waiting. She put the ball into the top right corner, past a reaching Farrin.
The Hawks' final push came after regulation time expired. Peterson took the corner, which turned into shots by
Callie Chase (Contoocook, N.H.) and Stevens. Peterson came into the action and shot off a free ball. The ball trickled past Farrin for a final score of 2-4.
Lunn finished with 11 saves on the day.
The Hawks finished their 5-12 season on a high-note despite the loss. They look forward to the 2018 season.
