Roger Williams gained the upper-hand early on in the game, scoring in the sixth minute.
Emma Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) crossed a pass to
Jenna Clavette (Enfield, Conn.) right in front of the goal. Clavette slipped a shot behind the keeper for her second goal of the year and a 1-0 Hawk lead.
Sydney McCarthy (Little Falls, N.Y.) added to Roger Williams' lead four minutes later. She gained possession of the ball by the right side of the goal in front of two Golden Bear defenders. She would move around the two, turn, and cross a shot into the right corner of the goal, putting RWU up 2-0.
The Roger Williams midfield and defense did a strong job limiting the Western New England offense in the first half. RWU held Western New England without a shot over the first 30 minutes of play. The Golden Bears' Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) logged the only two shots on goal in the period, but both attempts would be turned away by RWU's
Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.).
Western New England missed a strong opportunity to get on the board in the 50
th minute. Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) tapped a shot from the right side of the goal, but had it bounce off the right post and deflect to the left. The ball bounced towards Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) who had a wide-open look at the goal, but pushed her shot just far left.
The Golden Bears would be gifted another chance in the 56
th minute, when Lauren Palmateer (Coxsackie, N.Y.) connected with DeLima on the inside right corner of the goal. DeLima would deliver the first goal of the game and bring Western New England within one.
It would be Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.) that scored the game-tying goal with no time left on the clock in regulation. Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.) took the penalty corner that allowed Jackson to find the back of the goal for WNE and send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, McCarthy almost ended the game in RWU's favor a minute into OT, but a slight mishit on the one-timer sent the shot just wide left. Then in the third minute, Carlson came down the field and beat a Roger Williams defender with a pass to the middle to DeLima, who would knock in the game-winner for WNE.
Trupe made three saves for WNE in the win, while Lunn had five saves for RWU on the night.
Both teams entered the game at 2-3 in the CCC. With the win, Western New England moves into sole possession of fourth place in the conference at the halfway mark of CCC play.
